Revelation 14:1 prophesied, “And I looked, and, see, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads.” We all know that the “an hundred forty and four thousand” spoken of in the Bible are the overcomers God will make in the last days, and these people are those who are qualified to enter the kingdom of heaven. Do you know what the standard of the 144,000 overcomers in the Bible is and how to be an overcomer? Let’s fellowship together.
Speaking of the 144,000 overcomers in the Bible, perhaps some people think that as long as they expend and work hard for the Lord, and do many good deeds, then that makes them overcomers and they can be raptured into the kingdom of heaven when the Lord returns. But is it really the case? Did the Lord Jesus ever say that? What is the standard of overcomers? Now let’s have a look at what the prophecies of Revelation say. It’s prophesied in Revelation: “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no lie; they are without blemish” (Revelation 14:4–5). “These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14).
God’s words say, “Those whom God refers to as ‘overcomers’ are those who are still able to stand witness and maintain their confidence and devotion to God when under the influence of Satan and while being laid siege to by Satan, that is, when they find themselves amidst the forces of darkness. If you are still able to keep a pure heart before God and maintain your genuine love for God no matter what, then you are standing witness in front of God, and this is what God refers to as being an ‘overcomer.’” “Those who are made complete before the disaster are submissive to God. They live reliant on Christ, they bear witness to Him, and they exalt Him. They are the victorious male children and good soldiers of Christ.”
It can be seen that the 144,000 overcomers are people who closely follow God’s footsteps, whose corrupt dispositions are cleansed and changed, and who are without blemish and never again commit sin or oppose God. They are able to obey and follow God absolutely no matter how He works or speaks; they expend and work for God in order to exalt God and bear witness to God, and for the sake of fulfilling the duty of created beings to repay God’s love, without any transactional intentions or demands. No matter what kind of hardship or oppression they may face, they have no complaint against God, but are able to stay loyal to God and stand witness for God. Only people such as this are the 144,000 overcomers prophesied in Revelation.
Now let’s examine ourselves. Though we expend and labor for the Lord, our corrupt dispositions haven’t been cleansed and changed and we still often sin and oppose God. For example, when we work and deliver sermons, we exalt ourselves and show ourselves off so that brothers and sisters look up to us and hold us in high regard and by doing so we are bringing people before us; we often tell lies and deceive others to protect our own interests; when we encounter natural or man-made disasters, or trials and refinement, we still complain against and misunderstand God, or even betray Him. Such examples abound. Given that we often sin and resist God, and have no faithfulness or obedience to God in hardships and trials, how could we possibly be overcomers?
Therefore, our viewpoint that an overcomer is someone who works hard for the Lord and does some good things is not in accordance with the Lord’s words and the fact. Only those who are purified of their corrupt dispositions and are able to be absolutely obedient and devoted to God are overcomers.
Now we are clear about the standard for being an overcomer. Then how can we become overcomers? The Lord Jesus long ago prophesied, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come” (John 16:12–13), and “And if any man hear My words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:47–48). In 1 Peter 4:17 it is written: “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God.”
God says, “I have previously said that a group of overcomers are gained from the East, overcomers who come from amid the great tribulation. What is meant by these words? They mean that these people who have been gained only truly obeyed after undergoing judgment and chastisement, and dealing and pruning, and all kinds of refinement. The belief of these people is not vague and abstract, but real. They have not seen any signs and wonders, or any miracles; they do not speak of abstruse letters and doctrines, or profound insights; instead they have reality, and the words of God, and a true knowledge of the reality of God. Is such a group not more capable of making plain the power of God?”
It can be seen that it is prophesied in several places in the Bible that when the Lord returns in the last days, He will express the truth and do the work of judgment and chastisement to cleanse and change people once and for all, and to make a group of overcomers. That is to say, it’s God’s work of judgment of the last days that makes the overcomers. So, if we want to become overcomers, the only path is to accept God’s end-time judgment work.
Now, the Lord Jesus has returned in the flesh as Almighty God. He does the work of judgment beginning with the house of God and expresses the whole truth that purifies and saves man in order to judge mankind’s satanic nature of resisting God, to reveal the truth of man’s corruption, and to show His righteous, holy disposition that tolerates no offense. When we experience the judgment, chastisement, trials, and refinement in God’s words, we genuinely see the essence and truth of our being utterly corrupted by Satan. We see that we are arrogant, self-important, selfish, despicable, crooked, and cunning, that we detest the truth, that we are filled with notions and imaginations about God, that we could resist and betray God at any time, that we are entirely descendants of Satan, and that we are completely unworthy to come before God. At the same time, we also sincerely feel that God’s words are the truth and are utterly convincing, and thus we fall before God in regret. And moreover, we genuinely experience that God’s disposition brooks no offense, upon which we produce fear of God in our hearts, and are able to accept the truth and live by God’s words, and our corrupt dispositions are slowly changing and being cleansed.
Now the work of judgment beginning at the house of God is already nearing its end. Those who truly believe in God, and thirst for the true way have all returned before God’s throne, and enjoy being watered and provided to by God’s words. Almighty God really has made complete a group of overcomers and gained a group of people who are of one mind with God. The victorious testimonies of God’s chosen people are available online, openly testifying to all nations that Almighty God is the returned Lord Jesus. Only by accepting Almighty God’s work of judgment and chastisement in the last days can we have the chance to be cleansed and changed, and to become one of the 144,000 overcomers in the Bible.
