Question in Faith: If I Am Sinful, Will I Go to Heaven?

September 12, 2020

Question: I’ve believed in the Lord for many years, but I still sin frequently and fail to put the Lord’s words into practice. The Lord is holy, so I’m always concerned about this: If I am sinful, will I go to heaven?

if i am sinful will i go to heaven

Answer: Hello! The problem you ask is crucial as it directly involves the important matter of our entry into the kingdom of heaven. In fact, the Lord Jesus has already told us clearly whether sinners can go to the kingdom of heaven. The Lord Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the son stays ever(John 8:34–35). And in Leviticus 11:45, it says, “You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.” And Hebrews 10:26 says, “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins.” We can see from these verses that God is holy, the kingdom of heaven is a holy place, and God holds its key. Since we are sinful and still continue to commit sins, we are the servants of sin and are definitely not fit to go to the kingdom of heaven. Only those who no longer sin and who have gained purification can enter the kingdom of heaven. Although we were redeemed by the Lord Jesus, no matter how hard we work, we still can’t cast off the bonds and constraints of sin and instead often sin and resist God. For example, even though we clearly know the Lord requires us to behave with patience and tolerance, we just can’t stop ourselves from losing our temper; even though we clearly know the Lord teaches us to be honest people, as innocent as a child, we just can’t help but tell lies to protect our own face and interests; even though we clearly know we should be grateful in everything, when we encounter issues that aren’t in line with our notions, like illness, we can’t help reasoning with God and complaining to Him; even though we clearly know the Lord requires that we love God with all our hearts and minds, we labor and work to obtain blessings and grace, not to love or satisfy God; and so forth. Can we, who are covered all over with filth and capable of resisting and rebelling against God, be qualified to enter the heavenly kingdom? That’s impossible. Just as the Bible says, “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins(Hebrews 10:26).

Maybe someone will ask, “Since people who often sin can’t enter the heavenly kingdom, while only those who are purified can pass its gates, then how can we become purified so that we may enter the heavenly kingdom?” Actually, the Lord Jesus gave us some prophecies long ago, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come” (John 16:12–13). “And if any man hear My words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day(John 12:47–48). “Sanctify them through Your truth: Your word is truth(John 17:17). And 1 Peter 4:17 says, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God.” These prophecies show that when the Lord returns in the last days, He will express the truth and perform the work of judgment beginning with God’s house; this is to enable us humans to be completely purified so that we may enter the kingdom of heaven. That is why just accepting the Lord Jesus’ work of redemption is not enough. We still need to accept the Lord’s work of judgment in the last days, for only then will we have the chance to have our corrupt dispositions cleansed and changed. When we have our inner sinful nature purified and can practice God’s words, live by His words and never again rebel against and resist Him, we are capable of entering God’s kingdom. Just as it is prophesied in the Book of Revelation, “Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city(Revelation 22:14).

Today, in all the world, only The Church of Almighty God openly testifies that the Lord Jesus has returned as Almighty God, Christ of the last days. Almighty God has expressed millions of words of truth and is doing the work of judgment and chastisement to purify and save mankind with the truth. If we want to be cleansed of our sins and enter into the kingdom of God, we must accept Almighty God’s judgment work of the last days. Let us look at what Almighty God’s words say.

Almighty God says, “Though Jesus did much work among man, He only completed the redemption of all mankind and became man’s sin offering; He did not rid man of all his corrupt disposition. Fully saving man from the influence of Satan not only required Jesus to become the sin offering and bear the sins of man, but it also required God to do even greater work to rid man completely of his satanically corrupted disposition. And so, now that man has been forgiven of his sins, God has returned to the flesh to lead man into the new age, and begun the work of chastisement and judgment. This work has brought man into a higher realm. All those who submit under His dominion shall enjoy higher truth and receive greater blessings. They shall truly live in the light, and they shall gain the truth, the way, and the life.

Christ of the last days uses a variety of truths to teach man, to expose the substance of man, and to dissect the words and deeds of man. These words comprise various truths, such as man’s duty, how man should obey God, how man should be loyal to God, how man ought to live out normal humanity, as well as the wisdom and the disposition of God, and so on. These words are all directed at the substance of man and his corrupt disposition. In particular, the words that expose how man spurns God are spoken in regard to how man is an embodiment of Satan, and an enemy force against God. In undertaking His work of judgment, God does not simply make clear the nature of man with a few words; He exposes, deals with, and prunes over the long term. All these different methods of exposure, dealing, and pruning cannot be substituted with ordinary words, but with the truth of which man is utterly bereft. Only methods such as these can be called judgment; only through judgment of this kind can man be subdued and thoroughly convinced about God, and moreover gain true knowledge of God. What the work of judgment brings about is man’s understanding of the true face of God and the truth about his own rebelliousness. The work of judgment allows man to gain much understanding of the will of God, of the purpose of God’s work, and of the mysteries that are incomprehensible to him. It also allows man to recognize and know his corrupt essence and the roots of his corruption, as well as to discover the ugliness of man. These effects are all brought about by the work of judgment, for the essence of this work is actually the work of opening up the truth, the way, and the life of God to all those who have faith in Him. This work is the work of judgment done by God.

These words tell us that the Lord Jesus only did the work of redemption, thus enabling our sins to be forgiven, but He hasn’t absolved us of our satanic nature, and the corrupt dispositions within us, such as arrogance, selfishness, deceit and wickedness, continue to exist. Unless these God-defying corrupt dispositions and satanic nature are resolved, we will keep involuntarily committing sin. Now in the last days, on the basis of the Lord Jesus’ work, Almighty God is expressing truths and carrying out the work of judgment to thoroughly resolve man’s sinful nature and satanic dispositions, allowing us to completely escape the bonds of sin and be purified. The truths expressed by Almighty God not only reveal all the mysteries of God’s 6,000-year management plan, but also point out the path by which believers can change our disposition and be cleansed. At the same time, Almighty God thoroughly exposes man’s nature and substance corrupted by Satan, the truth of our corruption, and the root of our sin. Having experienced the judgment by Almighty God’s word, we have all felt how God’s holy and righteous disposition brooks no offense, seen clearly the truth of our corruption by Satan, and recognized how our nature and substance is full of arrogance, self-righteousness, selfishness, despicableness, crookedness and deceit. Everything we do, we do for our own fame and benefit. Even in our work and sermons, it is for the sake of reputation and status; we’re always showing off and honoring ourselves so that people look up to us. It is not at all to exalt or bear witness to God. When God’s work is not in line with our notions, we delimit and judge Him. We stand in stiff-necked opposition to God and don’t obey Him at all. It’s only then that we see how we live entirely based on our satanic nature, and that we are utterly lacking a human likeness. Our deeds arouse God’s loathing and hatred for us, and also make us feel abashed and unable to show our faces. We begin to be disgusted by ourselves and hate ourselves, and become willing to submit to God’s judgment and chastisement and steadfastly pursue the truth. By experiencing God’s judgment over a long period, we have gradually learned to fear God in the depths of our hearts and gained different degrees of understanding of God’s holy essence and His righteous disposition which brooks no offense. Meanwhile, our resolve to forsake our flesh and practice the truth becomes stronger and stronger and thus we gradually cast off the binds of our corrupt nature and are able to conduct ourselves in accordance with God’s words and requirements. This is how the problem of our sinful nature can be resolved.

All who have experienced Almighty God’s work of judgment have had their corrupt dispositions purified to varying degrees, and have some experiential testimonies of change in their life dispositions. And many videos of these testimonies have been produced and published online, such as Replacing Jealousy With Magnanimity, How I Changed My Arrogant Self, Liberated From Fame and Fortune, and In Letting Go of Selfishness, I Am Liberated. These are all the results obtained through Almighty God’s judgment work in the last days. And they are testifying to all the world that the work of judgment done by Almighty God can indeed cleanse mankind of our sins. Therefore, only by accepting the work of judgment of the last days of the returned Lord Jesus, Almighty God, can we have the chance to enter the kingdom of God.
